Fasting Guidelines
Panels that include fasting sugar, lipid profile, or iron profile require around 10 hours of overnight fasting. Profiles that do not include any of these three do not require any fasting.

Understanding Antenatal and Prenatal Maternity Profiles
Antenatal and Core Screening
These panels look for maternal conditions that can change care during pregnancy and planning for the baby. HIV I & II, HBsAg, anti-HCV, and syphilis tests screen for infections. Early identification can guide treatment or newborn protection for HIV, hepatitis B and syphilis, and maternal assessment and infant follow-up for HCV. Hemoglobin or CBC helps identify anemia; glucose tests can flag blood sugar concerns; TSH assesses thyroid function; and urine tests can reveal findings such as protein that need further evaluation.
The Antenatal Panel Rapid (Qualitative) combines infection markers with hemoglobin, sugar and urine tests. This screening panel cannot establish a diagnosis, especially for infection markers on its own. Your obstetrician may advise another lab test for confirmation. The Antenatal Panel Basic replaces the rapid tests with more reliable and fully automated lab tests and adds CBC and TSH. The Advanced Pro panel adds nutrition and detailed anemia checkups by adding tests for vitamins, iron deficiency, and thalassemia. Antenatal care also includes blood pressure checks, blood group and Rh assessment, ultrasound, and a glucose tolerance test when prescribed.
TORCH Panel Options
TORCH antibody testing helps investigate exposure to toxoplasma, rubella, CMV and herpes simplex virus (HSV) when there is a clinical reason, such as symptoms, a known exposure or an ultrasound finding. Toxoplasma, rubella, and CMV can cause congenital infection; HSV is especially relevant to newborn exposure around delivery. The IgG and IgM panels each contain five markers. All Eight measures both antibody classes for four infection groups; All Ten separates HSV-I and HSV-II. The choice of panel depends on the question the obstetrician is trying to answer.
IgG generally reflects past exposure, while rubella IgG is also used to assess immunity. IgM needs careful interpretation: it can persist or produce a misleading positive result, and HSV IgM is not a reliable way to date herpes infection. If recent infection is suspected, the obstetrician may consider repeat serology, IgG avidity, or infection-specific tests alongside the clinical history and ultrasound. Maternal antibody results alone do not establish whether the fetus is infected.
Trimester Marker Programs
The first-trimester Double Marker measures free β-hCG and PAPP-A to calculate the chance of trisomy 21, 18 or 13. The calculation uses pregnancy details and incorporates NT and CRL ultrasound measurements; the scan is a separate service. In the second trimester, the Triple Marker measures β-hCG, E3 and AFP, while the Quadruple Marker adds inhibin A. The Triple and Quadruple reports assess trisomy 21/18 and open neural tube defect risk; AFP contributes to the latter assessment.
NIPT uses a different method: it analyzes cell-free DNA from the placenta in maternal blood. The NIPT screens for trisomies 21, 18 and 13 and sex chromosome aneuploidies. It does not use the serum marker calculation or screen for open neural tube defects. These tests provide screening results, not a diagnosis. An increased-chance result can lead to specialist counseling, further ultrasound and diagnostic testing such as CVS or amniocentesis, according to the obstetrician’s advice.

FAQs on Prenatal & Antenatal Screenings in Jamshedpur
Are all these tests required for all pregnant women?
No. Regular antenatal care is important, but the tests ordered differ by pregnancy. Your obstetrician uses gestational age, medical and pregnancy history, and earlier results to decide which routine and additional tests you need. TORCH panels, trimester marker screening, and NIPT serve different purposes.
What if a rapid infection marker result is reactive?
A reactive result in a rapid test does not establish a diagnosis. Your obstetrician will suggest further confirmatory tests.
What if I missed a prescribed Double Marker test?
If the first-trimester testing window has passed, your obstetrician can advise a second-trimester Triple or Quadruple Marker test or NIPT according to your gestational age, ultrasound findings, and screening goal.
What affects the maternity blood test price?
The price is determined by the complexity of the panel. A rapid qualitative antenatal screen is highly affordable, whereas a comprehensive maternity panel utilizes more complex laboratory assays and costs more.
