Limitations of a Triple Marker Test
The numerical risk estimate is generated by FMF-certified SSDW Lab 6 software using the biochemical results together with the required maternal, ultrasound, and clinical details.
A screen-positive or high-risk result is not a diagnosis. It indicates an increased calculated risk. Depending on the complete clinical picture, the obstetrician may advise another screening test, such as NIPT, or a diagnostic test, such as amniocentesis.
Major Clinical Limitations:
- Risk calculation cannot be performed for triplets or higher-order gestations.
- For twin pregnancies with fetal demise (vanishing twin), risk estimation may be unreliable.
- Different screening software and assay methodologies may yield varying risk estimates.
