Kidpro – Kidney/Renal Function Tests (KFT/RFT) By Thyrocare

Offer Price ₹749 MRP: ₹900
Number of Parameters: 8
The kidney profile (also known as a renal profile) is combination of tests which helps in determining the health of kidneys, how well they are filtering the fluids and excreting the waste. Also it helps to detect the percentage of calcium in the body. Low levels of calcium cause muscle pain and spasm or even abnormal heart rhythms whereas, high levels can lead to the formation of kidney stones.
RENAL/KIDNEY FUNTION TESTS (RFT/KFT) [8]
The RFT/KFT test list is as follows:
- BUN / SR.CREATININE RATIO
- BLOOD UREA NITROGEN (BUN)
- CALCIUM
- CYSTATIN C
- CREATININE - SERUM
- UREA
- UREA/CREAT RATION
- URIC ACID
- EGFR

Kidney Function Test (KFT) / Renal Function Test (RFT) – Price, Parameters, Purpose & Results 2025
The Kidney Function Test (KFT), also known as the Renal Function Test (RFT) or Kidney/Renal Profile, is a critical diagnostic screening that evaluates how well your kidneys are functioning. This test measures various biochemical markers in the blood to assess the health and performance of the kidneys.
🔍 What is the KFT / RFT / Kidpro Test?
The Kidney Function Test is a group of blood tests that provide diagnostic information about kidney health by measuring levels of waste products and minerals like calcium. It helps in the early detection and monitoring of kidney disorders and chronic kidney disease (CKD).
🧪 Parameters Included in a Standard Kidney Function Test and KFT Test Normal Ranges
The following parameters are typically evaluated in a KFT/RFT panel:
Test Name | Normal Range | Method | Clinical Relevance |
---|---|---|---|
Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN) | 7.94 – 20.07 mg/dL | Kinetic UV Assay | Indicates protein metabolism and kidney filtration efficiency |
Serum Creatinine | 0.72 – 1.18 mg/dL | Enzymatic Method | A key marker for kidney function; altered levels may indicate kidney damage |
BUN/Creatinine Ratio | 9.1 – 23.1 | Calculated | Helps identify pre-renal or post-renal causes of dysfunction |
Urea (Calculated) | 17 – 43 mg/dL | Derived from BUN | Reflects nitrogen waste excretion by the kidneys |
Urea/Creatinine Ratio | < 52 | Derived from Urea and Creatinine | Evaluates relative levels of nitrogenous waste |
Calcium | 8.8 – 10.6 mg/dL | Arsenazo III Method, End Point | Essential mineral; imbalance may reflect renal or parathyroid issues |
Uric Acid | 4.2 – 7.3 mg/dL | Uricase/Peroxidase Method | Elevated levels may signal kidney dysfunction or gout |
eGFR (Estimated GFR) | ≥ 90 mL/min/1.73 m² | CKD-EPI Creatinine Equation | Critical for assessing kidney filtration efficiency |
🧬 What is eGFR and Why is It Important?
Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR) is a calculated value based on serum creatinine, age, sex, and race. It estimates how efficiently the kidneys filter waste from the blood.
eGFR Interpretation:
- ≥ 90 mL/min/1.73m²: Normal kidney function
- 60 – 89: Mild decrease (early stage CKD possible)
- 45 – 59: Mild to moderate decrease
- 30 – 44: Moderate to severe decrease
- 15 – 29: Severe decrease
- < 15: Kidney failure (usually not shown in this report)
If the creatine value is slightly low and eGFR is above the normal range, it suggests excellent kidney function. It’s important to interpret these values together rather than in isolation.
📌 Clinical Significance of the Kidney Function Test (KFT)
The KFT/RFT panel helps in:
Early detection of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)
Monitoring of diabetes or hypertension-related kidney damage
Assessment of Heavy Metal Toxicity on the kidneys
Pre-surgical kidney health assessment
- Assessing kidney health improvement during the treatment and dialysis
📌 Clinical Significance of eGFR in Kidney Function Tests
Serum creatinine levels alone may not accurately reflect kidney function, especially in cases of mild to moderate kidney damage. That’s why estimating the Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR) has become a critical part of evaluating renal health.
eGFR is considered a “gold standard” for assessing how well the kidneys are filtering waste from the blood. It is recommended for all patients aged 18 and above whenever serum creatinine is measured. Since GFR cannot be measured directly in routine practice, it is calculated using formulas based on serum creatinine levels along with a patient’s age, sex, and race.
✅ Why eGFR Matters:
- Provides a more accurate picture of kidney function than creatinine alone.
- Helps detect chronic kidney disease (CKD) at earlier stages.
- Allows better monitoring and management of kidney health over time.
- Guides treatment decisions and referrals to a nephrologist.
The CKD-EPI equation is widely used for eGFR estimation and is considered reliable across different populations. Reporting eGFR alongside creatinine helps both clinicians and patients make informed decisions about kidney care.

You should consider getting this test if you experience:
- Swelling in legs, ankles, or feet
- Frequent urination, especially at night
- Fatigue or weakness
- Blood in urine
- History of diabetes, hypertension, or kidney stones
- Family history of kidney disease
